Practices & Regattas

High School Practices and Regattas

All sailors are expected to rig (set up) and derig (take down) boats for practice. Sailing teams focus on team racing, strategic and tactical training, and physical fitness. Drills performed at practice will foster experience to properly prepare a sailor for regattas. Many practices will include mini-races to offer sailors opportunity to try, fail and ultimately succeed at racing.

Practice Schedule

Spring season: April 2 – May 9, 2019.
Fall season: Aug. 22 – Oct. 24, 2019.
Practices are Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:30 – 8:30 PM.

Summer Intensives
Beginning HS Sailing Training Camp: Week of July 8.

In this week long training camp, we’ll focus on boathandling, basic rules of the road, fitness, proper sailing conditioning and short course race tactics.

Pre-season HS Sailing Clinic: Week of August 5.

This week long clinic is limited to the first 30 sailors that sign up. The coaching staff will be onsite this week to evaluate the sailors and start pairing up teams for the fall 2019 season.

About the High School Sailing Program »

Not into racing? Not to fear–let’s just sail. While we have a very active racing program, many of our members
just enjoy spending time on the water at their leisure. Our club’s location on Hoover reservoir offers a three
mile stretch between the bridges that is perfect for enjoying a leisurely sail with minimal motorboat traffic. As
a club member, you can sail when you want to sail. The clubhouse and grounds are a great place to bring
your family and friends for a picnic after a day cruising the lake. The porch offers amazing sunset views over
the lake. A great way to end your day.

Social events are scheduled throughout the season. These fun events are the perfect forum to find like-
minded friends.
