Can you believe July is in the past and we only have three months of sailing before the docks come out? It is great to see boats out sailing virtually every time I drive over the Smothers Road bridge. The club is a busy and active place these days and you are all doing a great job keeping things looking good. All your time spent fulfilling your committee assignments is noticeable.
As we enter the second half of the sailing season, let’s continue to be mindful of how we are gathering. We still need to be careful to keep the club a clean place. Please do not leave personnel items and food around the club. We still must be mindful of COVID with new variants emerging. We do not want to be taking unnecessary risks. Please be sensitive to the fact that everyone may not be vaccinated at the club.
I look forward to completing the year with a vibrant social schedule and hope to see lots of people at the Past Commodores’ Steak Roast on August 28th to recognize all of our former Commodores. We have lots of great sailing left this year. We have also had good participation and results from many Regattas. Our junior race team had 19 sailors at Junior Bay Week. Our Interlake fleet took first, second, and fifth, and we had 7 of the top 15 finishers at the Interlake Nationals as well as the winner of the Interlake Junior Nationals. Way to go Interlake sailors.
The Board is working on updating the club’s constitution and by-laws in order to reflect the current operations of the club and responsibilities of the membership to keep the club running efficiently and fairly for all of its members. The proposed changes will be presented in the September Leadline for a vote at docks out.
