Senior Spotlight: Cam Friedauer

Jamie JonesHoover Sailing Club, Youth Sailing

Cam Friedauer started with us in the spring of 2016 after a random call from his mom Kari asking what kind of sailing we could possibly do in Columbus, Ohio, I told her, “We do LOTS of sailing in Columbus, bring your kid to the lake some time to check it out.” He happened to come to one of the last practices that spring…it was blowing 25 out of the North, late April so the water was still in the 40s…and he shows up in boardies, flip-flops and a windbreaker!

Needless to say, I didn’t think this was going to last.

Man, was I wrong! He came off the water that night with the biggest grin on his face that I don’t think has ever left! He became the leader of what turned into our largest team (mostly due to the recruiting efforts of Kari and Cam), sailed in just about every practice and regatta he could. He was the first COHSSA representative in the Full Rig Cressy Championship, teamed up with Ally Hoeft to place 4th at Shepherd, 5th at States and 2nd at Westerville this past year. His full-on energy, willingness to go sailing with anyone at any time and ability to make everyone around him laugh will be sorely missed.

Cam is a senior at Liberty High School and will be taking his diving talents to Denison University in the fall where he’ll dive in the fall and come sailing with the Denison team next spring!

Way to go CAM!!

And again, parents make this thing go, and Maxx and Kari have gone way above and beyond the call of duty! Between Kari doing registration for just about every event we’ve hosted to Maxx making sure dock rotations go off smoothly.  At one regatta he sat at anchor in a Flying Scot taking team racing finishes ALL DAY LONG in 40 degrees. I rely on them both and they always deliver! Thank you both so much for all you do to make my job easier!
