Scot Spot

Hello Flying Scot Fleet 37 family! I hope everyone is well and making the most of a unique situation as we sail through the Novel Coronavirus 19 social and commercial restrictions.

For those of you that missed the Annual Holiday Party at Ellery and Marsha Block’s house in January, included are a few photos. We had great food as always, a white elephant exchange, which was more subdued than usual, probably because Ross was missing from action. A business meeting had good discussions regarding Fleet membership (still a bargain at $20.00).  Treasurer Dave Smith FS 577 generously offered to also be our Race Committee representative. Lively discussion followed around proposed changes to how we as FS members fulfill our obligation to provide qualified PRO’s (principal race officer) and rescue boat support for club races and for the Windmill Regatta. Last year, Dave Smith thoughtfully suggested how we could provide mentoring for FS members with the help of other club members. The majority agreed to this new (and in my mind, exciting) opportunity for learning. Dave has explained the new program in his many emails to our Fleet along with assignments for Race Committee (RC) duty so I will not go into detail now. If you have questions regarding the new program or your RC assignment, please contact Dave Smith at 614-738-8190.  Buckeye Regatta was discussed, but as you will note below, that is now a moot point.

Just a few updates:

  • The Buckeye Regatta has been canceled.
  • A group of us will look into alternatives for competition at a reasonable time and effort. Dave Smith and other experienced FS racers have proposed a commitment series. A race day each month where we encourage as many FS to come out and race. Dates TBA!
  • Proposals for cruising are being discussed. One thought would be to have racers do 1 or 2 races on Sunday then join or lead FS members on a leisurely cruise. Upon returning to the club have a casual get together with food and drink.
  • Please let me know if you would be interested in these suggestions or you have any suggestions you would like to share.

We are a voluntary group but have obligations as HSC and FS Fleet 37 members. I encourage all to participate. Thank you!

Welcome new members Mike and Megan Rodriguez.  They co-own a Scot (don’t have the #) with Jeff Smith and have been assigned to the Social committee.

See you on the Water!!
