Windmill Fleet #60 had an eventful 2019 with a loaded Spring, Nationals, and summer Great Lakes regatta with our sister fleet at Erie Yacht Club, PA.
Doug & Allie Boyer welcomed a daughter and new light-air crew Elsie to the world. New team Simon & son, Jacob Pennells (#3251) probably were the most active club racers, where stalwarts Chris Bunge (#4100), Tim & Nate Bachman (#4689) anchored Sunday regulars. We need to tweak Tyler’s boat and double-deck him up to Erie if up to the task. Big fun. I left #4200 in Erie to swap my rig to the never-ending #5043 refurb so we can have a fleet loaner for people to jump in to test drive with us. Our Race Committees did a great job with a different PRO for 7 duties while juggling half the fleet living out-of-town for the summer and normal work and family responsibilities making things tough as expected.
Fleet #60 hosted the annual Midwestern Memorial Regatta as the longest-standing WCA class event since 1965 with Past National champs from Annapolis John & Anne Dannenberger winning. We also participated in the 2019 Great Lakes in Erie in August. See attached scores (with half the fleet from out-of-town). As tune-up and site of the 2020 Nationals, perennial NAs bridesmaid, Larry Christian of New Hampshire and Ali Sponar walked away from the fleet in light conditions while past champs fought for scraps. Erie always hosts a great event—a fun fleet with great sailing and awesome facilities.
Thanks to the 2019 Fleet Officers: Tim Bachman/Captain, Craig Tovell/Secretary & Media, Carol Prebihalo /Treasurer, Peter Rothman/Raft Repair, Ed Yingling/Rafts, and Chris Demler/Measurer.
2020 RC Duties will be assigned with seven (7) different PROs with mentors as in 2019.
