Commodore’s Comments

Steve LavenderCommodore Comments, Leadline

We can clearly see with our 2020 vision, that sailing at HSC is off to a good start.  We had 9 sailors participate in the New Years Day laser frostbiting event.   As of the time that this article is published, I am happy to see that there are only 8 more weeks till our regular sailing season begins, not that a sailoholic counts such things.

As your new Commodore, I can say that I am fortunate to be taking the helm following Commodore Sweterlitsch’s term, as she took the lead on the important and time consuming task of resolving the terms of the our new 10-year lease with the City of Columbus.  I am also supported by an outstanding group serving on the board this year.  Treasurer Mark White indicates that the club is in very strong position financially, which is good, as we need to change out one of our RC boats to be in compliance with the lease.   No more 60 horsepower engines.   While the city will permit us to use our one 30 HP engine, all other boats must have 25 HP or less.   Once we get that taken of we can consider other improvements to the club.

But given it’s 2020; my vision is to find ways of enhancing our experience at HSC.   Please reach out to me when you see me at the club, via email (, or pick up that antiquated device, the telephone, and give me a call 614-431-8529.   I’d love to hear your thoughts on how we can continue to improve what we’ve built at HSC.
